A Creative Life – Where it all started – We may have been hidden by rags
A Creative Life - Where it all started - We may have been hidden by rags, but we had something... I know it is unlikely that any of us can pinpoint a moment in time you decided to pursue a path in life. A creative, artistic life is something that has always been with you and it is best to just embrace.
The early 1980's were a colourful time in the UK arts scene and strolling into art college a week after the college started was maybe the first definned sign I was going to be living a creative journey. Long before I was painting parrots and cassowaries in Australia and the West Indies, I was painting and creating for the halcyon souls in the UK London and Brighton punk scene.
Before canvas, panels and walls, there was clothing and painting punk jackets for friends and clients. That moved into creating hand painted clothing for the London punks and the Carnaby Street crowd. Somewhere out there some of those early clothing focused art pieces still exist, marking a moment in time.
Sadly we rarely carried a camera at that time, but we captured a few photos of the fellow creative fools, we knew and loved. Painting for Exquisite Hooligans of those early 80's days, that developed into paintings of avian hooligans of today.
“Beware of artists. They mix with all classes of society and are therefore most dangerous."— Queen Victoria”
